Explanation
Correct answer: A.
Choice A is the best answer because it most logically completes the text’s discussion of how online games disclose information about their data collection practices. In this context, “opaque” means that games deliberately avoid sharing clear information about data collection. The text indicates that data-privacy advocates are working to “expand online players’ knowledge of data collection practices” and improve players’ ability to navigate privacy settings. The fact that advocates are working to expand players’ knowledge about data collection and privacy settings implies that players currently lack clear information about these aspects of the games. This context therefore supports the idea that online games are often quite unclear, or opaque, about what data they collect and why.
Why the other choices are wrong
Choice B
Choice B is incorrect because describing online games as being “abrasive,” or harsh and irritating, about their data collection practices wouldn’t make sense in context. The text focuses on the clarity of the information about data collection that games share with players, not on the tone or manner in which this information is communicated.
Choice C
Choice C is incorrect because describing the games as “ambivalent,” or having mixed feelings, about their data collection practices wouldn’t make sense in context. The text isn’t discussing the game companies’ attitudes toward their own practices; it’s discussing the extent to which information about those practices is communicated to players.
Choice D
Choice D is incorrect because describing online games as “outspoken,” or frank and forthright, about their data collection practices would contradict the text. If the games were forthright about data collection, data-privacy advocates wouldn’t need to work to expand players’ awareness of this aspect of gaming. Instead, the text emphasizes the challenge of obtaining clear information about data collection in online games.

I was looking for a word that would say meticulous or surreptitious. Opaque fulfills that in the same figurative sense. Abrasive, means harsh (when referred to people). Outspoken is overtly, or openly. And ambivalent does not make any sense in this scenario.
